NOISE OF TIME (S.Petersburg - London)
[balkan folk music with drum'n'bass, hip hop rhythms, post rock and jazz]

WHY ARE WE CALLED THE NOISE OF TIME?
The Noise of Time is the most commonly accepted English translation of the Russian title, Shoom Vremeni. A short, auto-biographical prose collection of memoirs and impressions of the childhood and youth of the Russian poet Osip Mandelstam in and around turn of the last century St. Petersburg. It was the memoirs of his wife, Nadezhda Mandelstam (nee Khazina) that enabled me to understand and connect with my own artistic direction and helped me to find my way out of, what seemed tombe for me at the time, the artistic desert of Britain in the mid nineteen eighties. The second volume especially; Hope Abandoned, is the most ALL ENCOMPASSING testament of twentieth century experience that I know. Not to mention the fact that I like this title in English as well as Russian.{The subtleties of the word, SHOOM, I know will not be lost on Czech audiences.} {Generally speaking the sense of shoom implies more of a sustained and uniform auditory effect than the English word noise.[Clarence Brown ]} Hubbub, tumult, commotion, clamour are all possible translations.
